We grow them primarily for their large and striking inflorescences, which appear in mid-summer and continue to decorate flower beds well into autumn. These are most often the smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) and panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) types. These shrubs love well-drained soil and plenty of moisture. They are perfect as solitary plants, for the back parts of mixed perennial beds, or for growing in spacious containers on the terrace.\n\nTheir flowers gradually change color from greenish to creamy white and then to delicate pinkish shades. They bring interesting variability to the space, which continues to delight the eye from hot summer days until the first frosts.
