Purple loosestrife is a native perennial plant that thrives in moist and sunny spots. In nature, you will most often encounter it in waterlogged meadows or on the banks of ponds, so it is an ideal choice for a garden pond. However, it also copes perfectly well in ordinary perennial beds, especially if you have heavier clay soil in your garden that retains moisture better.

During the summer, it creates tall and slender spikes of flowers in vibrant shades of pink, purple, or even white. The plants give a very airy and light impression in the flower beds, which brings a nice vertical structure to the plantings. Moreover, they are attractive even after flowering, because in autumn their narrow leaves turn deep orange to dark red tones.
