Oregano

Ornamental oregano brings a piece of the sunny Mediterranean to summer flowerbeds. Unlike the classic culinary herb, these perennials stand out primarily for their unconventional inflorescences and interesting texture, which naturally enliven any planting. Yet, they retain their typical fragrance, which attracts plenty of bees and butterflies to the garden. Their native species grow on rocky and dry slopes in Southern Europe. Thanks to this, oregano is naturally accustomed to modest conditions and handles summer heat well. Therefore, it thrives best in the garden in a spot with direct sun and poorer, but well-draining soil. It tolerates drought exceptionally well, making it perfect for rock gardens, dry stone walls, or sunny gravel beds, where it grows with minimal care.
