Hesperis

Dame's violet is a beloved plant in country gardens, blooming from May to July with rich clusters of purple and white flowers. It is a robust biennial or short-lived perennial that can grow up to one meter high. In the wild, it grows on the damp edges of forests and meadows, so it thrives in humus-rich, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. If conditions are right, it reliably persists in the flowerbed through self-seeding. The flowers of the Dame's violet smell lovely and act like a magnet for bees and butterflies. At Loukykvět, they are one of our first spring harvests. Each plant produces several sturdy, long stems that are perfect for cutting. We often mix them with spring bulbs in our bouquets.
