Gaura is an undemanding perennial that brings lightness and movement to any flower bed. Its delicate flowers, set on thin stems, resemble tiny butterflies that are constantly hovering in the wind. It blooms profusely and tirelessly from the beginning of summer until the first autumn frosts.
It originally comes from the sunny and hot plains of North America. Thanks to this, it tolerates drought well and thrives best in full sun. It loves well-drained, sandy soil that is poor in nutrients. Conversely, it suffers in heavy, waterlogged soils.
In our conditions, it is more of a short-lived perennial, but it readily reseeds itself in drier places. It looks excellent in mixed perennial plantings and creates a very natural effect when combined with ornamental grasses. Furthermore, the flowers will attract many beneficial pollinators to your garden.
